Ogun Police Investigate Herders’ Role In Cassava Farm Arson, N27.3m Damages

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a case of arson involving cattle herders who allegedly set fire to a 35-acre cassava farm in Adao Village, Abeokuta, causing an estimated N27.3 million in damages.

According to CSP Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred on February 19, 2025, when the farm owner, Mr. Ogunbayo Adewale, discovered that his farm had been set ablaze, with some cattle grazing on the farm and several cassava plants uprooted.

The police have apprehended one of the cows as evidence and have identified the owner.

To prevent a potential tribal conflict, the Divisional Police Officer of FUNAAB Harmony deployed grassroots policing strategies to calm rising tensions.

Moreso, the case has been transferred to the surveillance section for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The police have assured the public that justice will be served and urged all parties to remain calm during the investigation.
