Osun State’s APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, has ordered local government chairmen and councillors to vacate their secretariats temporarily.
This decision comes as a sign of respect for Aderemi Abass, a former chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was tragically killed in Ikire on Monday.
Lawal condemned Abass’s killing as “inhuman, wicked, and callous,” describing him as a peace-loving individual.
He praised the council chairmen for adhering to the Court of Appeal’s ruling and urged the police to apprehend those responsible for the killing.
The conflict began when the APC and PDP disputed the Court of Appeal’s ruling on sacked APC chairmen and councillors.
The PDP claimed the ruling didn’t reinstate the sacked officials, while the APC insisted on their return. This led to violence across the state, resulting in six deaths and several injuries.
To restore peace, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed mobile policemen to the state.
The police have condemned the violence, describing it as a threat to democracy and public safety.
