The Edo State House of Assembly has made a significant move by terminating the appointments of all political appointees attached to its members, effective immediately.
This decision was announced by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku during a plenary session in Benin, and it’s notable that all 24 members of the House unanimously agreed on this move.
The terminated appointees, including special advisers, senior special advisers, and others, will receive their February salaries as a parting gesture.
According to Speaker Agbebaku, these appointees were initially appointed by House members in June 2023, upon the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly.
However, this development comes on the heels of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s recent decision to dissolve all executive boards, agencies, and parastatals within the state’s public service, as well as terminating the appointments of all political appointees, including permanent secretaries appointed from outside the civil service.
