Tragedy has struck in southern Libya, where investigators have discovered the bodies of 28 migrants near a detention facility in the desert.
The Libyan Attorney General’s Office found the grave north of the city of Kufra, where dozens of migrants had been detained.
Security forces freed 76 migrants from the facility, and it’s reported that a gang had subjected migrants to torture, cruel treatment, and inhuman conditions.
The city of Kufra is located in a desert area near the Egyptian and Sudanese borders, a region known for its risky security situation due to years of civil war.
Unfortunately, this incident is not an isolated one.
Armed groups in Libya, some of which work with state agencies, operate criminal networks that exploit migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
Moreso, there have been repeated reports of serious human rights violations, including unlawful killings, forced recruitment, and human trafficking.
